making basketThe not-for -profit voluntary organisation ‘Basketry and Beyond’ is planning this festival to profile the use of bamboo, cane and other materials that can be split and woven. The event will celebrate an engagement with basketry by providing opportunities for the general public to have direct experience of the techniques and materials used in the craft of basketweaving through site specific installations, performance, music and workshops.

making basketWe aim to bridge both theoretical and spatial gaps by holding an all-inclusive event, which will connect artists and professionals from diverse disciplines with the general public, through a visual extravaganza of traditional and contemporary aspects of basketry combined with structural bamboo work.

Bamboo WorkshopWe have initial funding from the Arts Council to research and develop the individual proposals that comprise the event. As listed on the info page.

Through early publicity we are offering interested individuals and groups, nationally and internationally, the time and the opportunity to consider how they could participate in the event, alongside the fishing village community of Porthleven and schools from the locality.
